Ci Andiamo?

Synopsis

The film addresses the theme of social isolation that affects many young people. Known throughout the world by the Japanese term hikikomori, which now seems to have become a real social emergency. Millions of young people and adults around the world experience this condition of isolation which leads them to lock themselves in their homes. There are no specific statistics on the incidence of hikikomori, because they are often individuals who voluntarily isolate themselves from society and therefore may be underestimated in official data.
Nonetheless, in Italy, some research by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità and the CNR estimates the number of young Italian students who experience this condition at around 70,000. The research only concerned young people between 11 and 17 years old and, therefore, the number of hikikomori people in Italy could likely be considerably greater.
The phenomenon is the subject of interest and study by pedagogists, educators, sociologists and psychologists, who seek to better understand the causes and possible solutions to address this form of social isolation.
Prevention requires a multidimensional approach, capable of involving the different sectors of society. In particular, for an empathic approach, the aspects linked to the knowledge and dissemination of the phenomenon, the support for families, the identification of warning signs of social isolation, the promotion of social inclusion for those at risk, the educational-pedagogical and psychological support.
Marco, the protagonist of the film, has been living isolated in his bedroom for months. The efforts of his mother and the school to get him back to life were useless. Giuseppe, an educator called to intervene to help the young man emerge from his state of isolation, tries to find a foothold, a hook, on which to leverage in order to establish a relationship with Marco. Will he succeed?
