Synopsis

A man with dementia vividly remembers being abandoned by his mother when he was young, though he struggles to recall recent events. Every day, he imagines calling his mother, reliving his childhood memories, and conversing with her at a bus stop that looks like it did 60 years ago. In his imagination, he hears the apology and understanding he longed for from his mother. His real wife, unaware of his hallucinations, arrives home from work and gives him shoes as a birthday gift, which his mother had promised him. She tells him to take care of the shoes, noting that only children’s shoes are disappearing in the village. Later, the man wakes in the night, goes to the shed, and relives his childhood memory, placing the new shoes among other children’s shoes.
