Synopsis
A ferocious wolf is terrorizing people and flocks in Gubio. The villagers are powerless against its vicious fury. But the holy man, Saint Francis of Assisi, coming forth to take on the cruel beast, manages to appease it and awaken its trust in humans. Not for long, though, as the wild animal comes to realize that human cruelty is far worse than its own.
This film visualizes a poem by Nicaraguan poet Rubén Darío. Images follow the Spanish text as it examines issues of cruelty and compassion, kindness and redemption. The wolf, representing the primeval forces of the natural world, confronts Francis with the failings of human behavior and the importance of respect for the law of nature.
