Synopsis

Paul Jannowski was a superstar of the GDR state circus, known as the only as the only living cannonball in the Eastern Bloc. But one day one day he dared to do the unthinkable: he used his cannon to shoot over the closely guarded GDR border into the Elbe and fled to the West – a spectacular act of freedom that made him a myth. In the GDR he became a state secret, in the West an outsider with a mischievous sense of humor and a heart full of longing. Now, decades later, the circus his incredible life story for the first time – a story of courage story of courage, freedom and the search for home. But Jannowski still has one last mission: in the summer of 2025 he wants to return to the GDR – symbolically – exactly as he left it exactly as he left it back then: with one last flight in his cannon. This film is a stirring portrait of an extraordinary man who man who did not allow himself to be held back by borders or neither borders nor conventions.
