Synopsis

Inspired by Franz Kafka’s “The Metamorphosis”, my adaptation of the story ‘The Other Side’ is an experimental short which follows a romantic relationship that questions the source of the dynamics within a relationship.

As the balance of give and take is disrupted by Berçin’s illness, she internalizes losing her value in the relationship due to the disruption of the initial dynamics. In contrast to Berçin, whose self-worth is damaged, Ahu doesn’t measure the value Berçin provides based on her “usefulness”. Ahu continues to love her girlfriend without giving up on her. Despite Ahu’s unwavering attempts to support her, Berçin doesn’t see or believe any parts of herself. Ultimately Ahu painfully gives up on Berçin and the story comes to a dark and poetic end.
