There are two remaining leper hospitals in Europe: one in Tichilesti, Romania, and the other in Fontilles, Spain. Filmed over three days, “Tichilesti - The Place of Lepers”, offers a unique insight into the experiences of three residents living in this community. They describe their lives and daily routines, aspirations and regrets, as well as stigma endured historically and into the present. Including interviews with patients and staff, the documentary offers expert and up to date information on leprosy, which may hopefully mitigate some of the misinformation and confusion that exists in contemporary Western society regarding the prevalence of Leprosy, its transmission and cure.
