In February 2024, we traveled from Chengdu to the depths of the Daliangshan to shoot Jihou Rizi and A Bi Er Zi. Jihou Rizi is 17 years old and A Bi Er Zi is 36 years old who takes care of eight children on her own.
Women's marriages in Yi villages are arranged by their families, and the bride price for traditional Yi weddings is high. They spend their days after marriage doing farm work and raising children. Many people never left their villages in their lives. Most people haven't changed much mentally.
In March 2024, A Bi Er Zi was working at home as a farmer, relying on the help of the Community School and the sale of the family's livestock to care for her eight children. A Bi Er Zi's vision is to be able to bring up her eight children to maturity. Jihou Rizi traveled to Xichang City to study and excelled in her studies. Her dream is to work in a mega city after graduating from university and marry the person she loves.
This movie tells the story of the two women who overcame the hard conditions in Liangshan and insisted on living optimistically.
