Synopsis
In 1794, 829 priests and religious figures were condemned to deportation for their unwavering loyalty to the Church, having refused to swear allegiance to the Civil Constitution of the Clergy, condemned by Pope Pius VI. These men were crowded onto ships anchored at the mouth of the Charente River, near Île Madame, originally destined for Guyana. However, they never set sail. Over the course of a few months, 547 of them succumbed to brutal conditions, enduring extreme mistreatment.

Despite their suffering, they forgave their captors and sought reconciliation among all French people. Many pledged silence about the horrors they endured, should they survive. Through the testamentary accounts and writings of the few who lived, this film recounts one of the most tragic and poignant chapters of the French Revolution, shedding light on faith, resilience, and the pursuit of unity amidst unimaginable suffering.
