This film is a unique Chinese opera movie, telling the story of: In the ancient Chinese Jin Dynasty, General Shili Xu harbored treasonous schemes. He presented his adopted daughter Wen Yan as a concubine to the palace to serve as an insider. Coinciding with Wen Yan's birthday, Shili Xu sent poisoned Baijiu, intending to use her to kill the emperor and seize the throne. Although Wen Yan was a noble consort, she was controlled by him. Due to her deep affection for the emperor, she devised a double-edged plan. She tricked the empress into drinking the poisoned wine. When the emperor came to inquire, she falsely claimed that the wine was a tribute from Shili Xu to the emperor, but the empress had mistakenly consumed it. After the emperor ordered Shili Xu to be executed according to the law, Wen Yan discovered that everything had already been exposed...... The film depicts how, under the ancient Chinese feudal system, women were oppressed, their individuality "alienated" by the system, as they strive to dominate their own destinies but ultimately cannot escape the shackles of their era.
