A slice of cake, three strangers and a strong personal motivation. These are the three elements around which the story revolves – in fact, a dialogue – between three people who do not know one another, but who all want the same thing: a slice of cake, precisely. No one seems willing to let go of the object of their desire, whilst the conversation increasingly turns into a verbal clash, oscillating between barbs, anecdotes and moments of incomprehension. Inspired by Jim Jarmusch’s Coffee and Cigarettes, EMILIO allows the viewer to eavesdrop undisturbed on the conversation of three characters vying for a dessert and, at the same time, conceals a symbolic and profound narrative that nods to Jungian psychoanalysis and its archetypes of the Self, Shadow and Anima.
