Synopsis
"There's Too Much Sun" is a short film set in Bologna's historic Cirenaica neighborhood in the mid-1970s. It chronicles the daily life of an eccentric, well-known figure in the city, Umberto Stignani, known as "Settecapotti" or "Atomino." A man of rare kindness, he rode a battered old bicycle loaded with empty, folded cardboard boxes, anchored to the rack, and with two empty plastic painter's bins hanging from the handlebars.
He wore a series of overcoats, even in the warmer months, and a construction helmet on his head. He did this because he believed in the need to protect himself from the sun's rays, and especially when he met young people, he warned them that they still had a lot of time ahead of them, and they shouldn't squander it, allowing themselves to be poisoned by that sun that "is the source of life but at the same time shortens it."
The short film recounts his journey, between reality and dream, through a neighborhood that is a small village within the city, meeting characters who are more "integrated" but who ultimately live on the margins like him: Bob Rock, Otto Krapfen, Biciclone all really existed, and their often casual encounters with "Settecapotti" generate glimpses of real life that poetically recount the life of a community in the 1970s, more united and supportive than it seems.Bologna 's Cirenaica district, a working-class neighbourhood built for colonial returnees - the story of a homeless poet who wore seven coatsin summer.
