Beneath the Surface is a visually driven animated short based on the creator’s own lived experience as an autistic adult. Through a series of powerful first-person moments, it reveals the hidden emotional cost of masking, misunderstanding and exclusion, challenging audiences to look beyond appearances and question the assumptions they make about others. With almost no dialogue, the film relies on striking visuals and carefully chosen words to deliver a simple but lasting message: presentation is only the surface of someone’s story.
