After an assembly where a bored teacher mispronounces "marijuana" and makes every student sign an anti-drug pledge, thirteen-year-old Addison decides to smoke a pack of cigarettes she stole from her brother. Her friend Molly wants no part of it. Every time Addison raises the lighter, something intervenes: a gust of wind out of still air, then a bucket of water from a cloudless sky. Two uniformed men arrive to explain that the pledge is a binding government contract, and that it covers homework too. No Smoking is the first narrative short by thirteen-year-old writer-director Eli Warnick, who also edited the film.
