Simone Botha Welgemoed is a South African professional ballet dancer, aerial performer, and model known for overcoming profound hearing loss to build a successful career in the performing arts. Born completely deaf due to a genetic condition called Connexion 26, she received a cochlear implant at just 22 months old, becoming one of the youngest children in Africa to undergo the procedure. Simone gained recognition as a role model and advocate for people with disabilities, inspiring many through interviews, documentaries, and public appearances. In 2012, she was crowned Miss Deaf South Africa, further increasing awareness about hearing impairment and inclusion in the arts. Her story is widely regarded as one of resilience, perseverance, and passion, proving that limitations do not define a person’s ability to succeed or inspire others.

The film does not chase a narrative arc. It rests inside stillness, repetition, and the softness of everyday beauty. The viewer is invited to witness what healing looks like when it is not performed. Quiet waves. Moving shadows. A fruit sliced open. Wings in flight. The warmth of the sun on skin. Through these simple elements, the film becomes a gentle act of self-reclamation. It holds the idea that renewal is not always grand or spoken. Sometimes it is found in the world as it already is, waiting for you to pause long enough to see it.
