Blood Bank

Des is a woman suffering from aplastic anemia who receives weekly blood transfusions. This is administered in a blood bank where Emma works as a medical technician. One night, Des is mugged by Cleto. Going through her things, he discovers Des' diary and learns more about her person. He becomes drawn to her. He stalks her and is led to the blood bank where he learns of her predicament. He decides to sell his blood. With this act, Cleto feels a sense of redemption, his way of making up for the crime he has done to her and to others before her. At the blood bank, he also develops a relationship with Emma.

"In the rolls of film shot by Dinz Rialto during his travels he searched for 'real' images, without filters, paradoxically finding them precisely where the act of filming is most evident. Those looks in the camera surprised me, intimidated me, just like those faces that appear amazed and shy in front of the camera: unaware actors of a frontal cinema, so direct as to push me to step aside and become a mirror in my turn, to move on to others those looks, isolated, free from any narrative. No story: just glances, held and slowed down to maintain the intensity."

History remembers it as the Orange Revolution, and here Sergii Masloboishchykov interrogates its foundation and motivations. By filming miners, villagers and students across Ukraine, the film maps a geography of the vast country that bridges the gap between East and West. Together they create a political argument for Ukrainian society, which, as the film states clearly, is a source of power.

With some help from the Narrator and lots of imagination, Busy Little Engine and his friend, Pig, have a lot of fun learning about what trains do all day. Gentle transitions, uncluttered visuals, and the loveable Pig draw viewers in to the simple adventures of Busy Little Engine and Pig as they explore the world through role-playing and imagination. Familiar sights and sounds mixed with magical animations inspire children to join-in, naming farm animals, singing-along with Pig, and recognizing new things in their daily lives. Just like a parent reading to a child, all the characters and sound effects in the story are voiced by one person.

“What fascinates me [about film],” says Daria Martin, “is the essential contradiction of the medium: its layered ephemeral and sensual aspect, its articulation of psychological projection together with a necessary physical realization of fantasy. The camera, circling around or brushing close to constructed sets, props, faces, and bodies, caresses these material elements, intimately describes their sculptural surfaces, and yet, paradoxically, when these images are projected as a beam of light, they become transparent, their heft subtracted. I want to play at seducing the viewer while allowing escape routes from the game. My implementation of certain ideals – primary colors, mechanical or athletic bodies, geometric sets, smooth skinned faces – is always tempered by the presence of something a little more awkward: shadows, seams, aging, exhaustion.”
