"Over a period of five months, I had my super 8 camera with me at all times. Once every hour I made a shot of myself, wherever I happened to be, interrupting any activity whatsoever. For the hours I slept at night, I filmed black. I changed speed and focus in different variations, and decided on these changes during the filming. I do not consider this film as a self portrait. I simply had to film myself as representing any person in time and space, since no one else could be around all the time. Twenty years later one more week." - M.G.

He was indifferent and suddenly received a strange text message. The text message introduced him to a mysterious APP. As long as he entered what he wanted, his dream would come true. After a little experimentation, Richard confirmed the authenticity of the app, so he typed in the words "let a love come". Has the perfect love he hoped for here come?

Cook has reused a clip from the 2000 music video "Get Your Roll On" by the rap group Big Tymers but replaced the audio with a version of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech. The civil rights leader's speech has been chopped and screwed, a hip-hop turntable technique that involves slowing down a track.

Saudi Automobile

Through references to gender roles and the female experience, Sara Abu Abdallah's work explores issues of obscurity and value, probing the social and cultural conditions of life in contemporary Saudi Arabia. In her multidisciplinary practice, she creates associations of the poetic and the absurd. Saudi Automobile consists of an installation and a 10-minute looped video that shows Sarah Abu Abdallah painting the shell of a wrecked car with light pink paint, mainly as a gesture of defiance against the monopolisation of the privilege of driving by the men in her home country at the time. She paints the wrecked car like icing a cake, as if beautifying the exterior would fix its disfunctionality. In this exhibition, Abu Abdullah’s pink car is placed outside on the Platform of The Flying Saucer

Atlas

Filmed in Morocco, the film Atlas by Karthik Pandian continues his investigation into history, site and monument. The film explores fundamental notions of movement, freedom and the cinematic imaginary through the figure of the camel. Rather than focusing on the Moroccan patrimonial landscape, which is itself full of simulations and fantasies conjured for the touristic imagination, Pandian shot the video in Ouarzazate, Hollywood’s go-to location to stage the desert — from Lawrence of Arabia to The Mummy. Littered with deteriorating sets constructed for films set in Jerusalem, ancient Egypt, Rome, Mecca… etc, the site portrayed in the video is itself disoriented, as Pandian collapses the distinction between set and location. Is it the Middle East? Is it the Western imagination of the Middle East? Is it a Moroccan fiction of the Middle East constructed for a Western gaze?
