The Heygate is a large 70s Brutalist estate which has been condemned now for more than 3 years, having been sold off by Southwark Council to property developers. What we found there was an amplified materiality. . . . The Heygate became as a crucible that concentrates our mind in its materials. You will notice in this film a complete absence of "the figure," an absence of protagonist. Instead we summoned an intensely subjective presence between "us" and the Heygate. In observing the Heygate, in loving the Heygate we generated an energetic interaction which we recorded. In other words our combined perception of Heygate weaving in and out of consciousness is a game of "looking and not looking," stimulating and collapsing the wave function at will.

On July 2, 2009 the Delhi High Court passed a landmark judgment scrapping this clause, thus fulfilling the most basic demand of the Indian LGBTQ community, which had been fighting this law for the past 10 years. Three characters, Beena, Pallav and Abheena travel through the city of Bombay heading to the celebrations for the first anniversary of the historic verdict. '365 without 377' is the story of their journey towards freedom.

In The Embassy, Filipa César takes an old album of colonial photos showing landscapes, people, architecture and monuments in Guinea-Bissau in the forties and fifties as a basis for thinking about the codes of representation of former Portuguese colonial power and the way memory is produced. Furthermore, these images are shown by a Guinean archivist who tells the story of his country seen through his own eyes.

Yohji Yamamoto: This Is My Dream

This is My Dream was released in celebration of the 10th anniversary of Yohji Yamamoto's Y-3 line for adidas. The documentary follows the designer from Tokyo to New York as he creates and prepares the Y-3 Spring/Summer 2010 collection. While Stanley uses the collection as a backdrop, the film is about much more. Yamamoto, a notoriously private person, offers insight into his inspirations and thoughts, wherein he explains his attraction to the dark side of life. There are also intimate clips included, such as Yamamoto playing the guitar. The Stanley-directed documentary is the first significant portrait of the designer since Notebooks on Cities and Clothes, which was filmed in 1989. We included both on this list because it's interesting to see the evolution of Yamamoto and his brand within those 20 years.
