One of the legends of Soviet television is Valentina Leontieva. One of the first TV presenters. She was called the All-Union "Aunt Valya". The peak of Leontieva's fame came in the late 1960s - early 1970s, when she led the program adored by the people "From the bottom of her heart." And besides, there were festive concerts "Blue light", popular children's programs "Visiting a fairy tale", "Good night, kids", "Skillful Hands", "Alarm Clock"... Leontieva's story about herself in the film is illustrated by film and TV newsreels, photographs of her personal archive. But even the most vivid memories of former glory cannot drown out the pain and longing. Valentina Mikhailovna appears in front of the audience in a housecoat and slippers. The poor atmosphere, the unpretentious decoration of her home, and most importantly, the genuine sadness in her eyes and voice indicate that the once beloved and irreplaceable Aunt Valya was undeservedly forgotten.

Stan Douglas's Suspiria takes as its location the Herkules Oktagon, Kassel's most famous historical landmark: a monumental octagonal structure built in the late 17th century, atop Wilhelmshöhe overlooking the city of Kassel.

The Road to Jenin is a 2003 documentary directed by Pierre Rehov, a French-Algerian film director of Jewish descent, whose documentaries mostly deal with the Middle East conflict. The Road to Jenin was produced to counter the Palestinian narrative in relation to the Battle of Jenin, a clash between the Israeli army and Palestinian militants in April 2002 which drew Palestinian accounts of a "Jenin Massacre" (Arabic: مجزرة جنين‎‎). This film was also a response to Mohammed Bakri's film entitled Jenin, Jenin.

This documentary deals with the contradictory experience of gay men in the military during apartheid in South Africa - an environment in which homosexuals sometimes found erotic space, but mostly encountered hostility. It draws on a literary exploration of gay experience in the military in the 'grensverhaal' (border story) genre of the 1980s as well as interviews with conscripts who served in the South African Defense Force and anti-military activists. The film paints a harrowing picture of forced conscription in the 1970s and 1980s and brings to light a hidden history of persecution, which was an integral aspect of the brutality of apartheid.

This Emmy award-winning program tells the unforgettable story of ordinary people caught up in a mind-numbing disaster. Told through vivid first-hand accounts and stunning archival footage, Angels Too Soon is also the story of a fire that remains officially unsolved, despite the detailed confession of a 10-year-old student in the school. Above all, it is a story of faith, hope and courage, the day that 92 children became Angels Too Soon.

Performed by my graduate students at the San Francisco Art Institute, this one act play that I had written gets the best production values that $500 can afford. Shot in a large can company, we actually pre-recorded the dialogue in the "can" as the only quiet room in the facility was the toilet. The actors then went onstage to mouth the dialogue, which was piped into the P.A. system. Nobody could really memorize all that verbiage for the three hour shooting schedule we were assigned every Thursday afternoon so it worked out pretty well and the thing should be viewed as a sort of puppet show as their jaws do drop now and then to the words. This was also planned as a major, star vehicle for Linda Martinez, an Iowa pie-maker with aspirations toward more dubious delights.

As I was marveling at how great Steve Winwood looked for a man who surely must be in his mid-60's, considering that he was fronting The Spencer Davis Group way back in 1963, I quickly remembered that he was only 15 years old at the time. Talk about your musical prodigies. That would make him only 55 at the time of this performance. Although he is probably past his prime by now, his voice sounds better than ever and his Hammond B3 playing remains unparalleled.
