In Nigeria, in the villages of Apir and Fiidi in the state of Benue, the women of the Tiv ethnic group struggle daily to improve their lives. As a result of their work in the fields and the sale of their harvest at market, most of these women have been able to attain economic independence. In 1987, the Nigerian government, prodded by the United Nations and women's organizations in Nigeria, developed a program for supporting women in rural environments called the "Family Support Programme," which encouraged them to organize more effectively and to form co-operatives. Several representatives of the government and the Programme present the broad outlines of this project, and talk about the women's investment and the problems they have encountered. The women describe their role in these co-operative associations and how they view this collective work and its benefits, which enable them to improve their socio-economic situation.

"Moción de Orden" is one of the video pieces corresponding to a video installation by the artist Lotty Rosenfeld. In the work we see the image of a maritime oil platform in the South of Chile, the image surrounds it, flying over. You hear the constant sound of the helicopter, and a voice-over text at the end.

A city’s urban architecture and spatial design often dictate the primary mode of getting from A to B. In LA the done thing is driving, whilst in Amsterdam you get on your bike and in Tokyo the main means of transport is rail. In these two video works, Junebum Park hones in on two distinct forms of getting oneself to a new location: on foot or arriving by car. Filmed from above, both works show the graphic patterns of urban planning in the form of the white lines of zebra crossings and parking lots, being used by city dwellers. Seen from this birds-eye view the humans become like bugs and Park plays with this scale further with the introduction of his hand, about ten times larger than the ant-like people, directing the action. As the viewer we see the scene from Park’s viewpoint, as the omni-present, all-seeing entity in charge.

In December 1927, a funeral car arrived in Leningrad, at the Moscow railway station. It brought an urn with the ashes of academician Vladimir Bekhterev and a glass jar with the brain of a scientist hidden from the public eye. Just a few days before, he had gone to Moscow for a congress of psychiatrists. However, according to a telegram recently found in the archives of the Leningrad Institute of the Brain, Professor Bekhterev was urgently summoned to Moscow by the Council of People's Commissars. The last time he was summoned to the Kremlin was three years earlier to see the seriously ill Lenin. To whom was this urgent call? What happened on that mysterious night before Christmas? And are there any documents about the illness and death of Academician Bekhterev?

This film is about Alexander Orlov, a resident of Soviet intelligence, who disappeared without a trace in Spain in 1938. For more than thirty years, “KGB militants” have been looking for him in order to destroy a man who was involved in most major world operations, in particular, in the export of all gold reserves from Spain to the USSR and the development of an operation to destroy Leon Trotsky.

The Onion Film was inspired by my work with found materials and organic surfaces. I am interested in the multiple ways in which film exists as a self-referencing medium. I worked with filmic surfaces directly, creating varied shapes and rhythms, within the constraints of the filmic frame. Much of my creative inspiration comes from various conceptual artists, both historical and contemporary.

This elegantly crafted and inspiring profile is affectionately devoted to magician, inventor, poet and polymath Jerry Andrus, best known as one of the world's greatest 3-D illusionists. Andrus, who died three years later in 2007 at the age of 89, was a polymath and autodidact whose restlessly inquisitive and spritely mind finds generous expression throughout the film. The film follows Andrus through his “Castle of Chaos” home in Albany, Oregon, where he shares his inventions, muses philosophically about the nature of human fulfillment, and articulates a kind of ethics at work in his magic-making. “I can fool you,” he says, “because you’re human.

This abstract film/musical composition conjures an atmosphere in which an aerial mobile is magically suspended in three-dimentional space. The floating pendants of the mobile each reveal a mysterious world filled with unique visual and aural forms, movements and gestures. The visuals have been created using hand-cut animated mattes in combination with hand-painted and etched clear and black 35 mm motion picture film. These images were then digitalized, visually transformed and manipulated, composited and post produced. The computer-generated music consists of continuous variations and transformations of a seemingly simple but open-ended harmonic theme that caroms through many key centers. However, this theme takes shape gradually, and is heard most clearly in a choral setting only after all five «protagonists» of the work have been introduced.
