Fast moving abstract film in two halves, gathering together Super-8 fragments and off-cuts shot over several years. The images include fairground lights and neon signs-- Images bleached, hand-coloured and edited into a frenetic collage.

Inspired by a photograph taken by a French soldier in the early 1900s of a ‘lingchi’ execution, Chen created a high-impact film that reconstructed this brutal form of punishment for criminals who had committed heinous crimes in feudal China. Lingchi – Echoes of a Historical Photograph opens with the gruesome execution of a condemned man in extreme slow motion. The crowd of witnesses eagerly await to collect blood and pieces of skin. Chen interweaves the event with images of the ruins of the Summer Palace after the second Opium War (1860), and also with remnants of abandoned factories and suffering workers. While the recurrent appearance of the haunting black wounds on the condemned man’s chest connects history with the present, it is also a provocative yet cruel metaphor for the cultural and political hegemony from imperialism to the current global context. Chen’s film opens a dialogue with viewers on the ruthless and barbaric events that happen in contemporary society.

STILL FRAMES is a laboratory film, conceived while I was finishing SARABAN. Indeed the two films were produced from the same images. The aim was not only to prove that the same source of image can generate two different films but also to highlight the incidence of light on color.

In 1955 archeologist Juan Leonard, went on an expedition to a remote region in the Mexican state of Chiapas, to film the Lacandon Indians.

An assertive polemic around first, second and third generations of the same image and the allied implications of that for texture, focus and resolution. Monitor explores a range of interactions between representation, raster grid, the front glass of the TV and its reflections. A vertical feature bisects the frame in each of the shots in this video. At moments it seems to be the edge of a wooden window frame; sometimes it looks more like an abstract painterly stripe; occasionally it splits, divides and almost disappears.

LILIUM is the second in a series of films featuring vertical strips of color made from digital images of plants. The motif is removed from the viewer's gaze, having appeared only once and then become more indistinct. As a result, the audience is able to distinguish solely the colors of a lily.

A dark comedy about witchcraft, depression, and the sexual sibling rivalry between a gay man and his white trash sister. Family jealousy reaches twisted new heights as mentally-unstable brother and exhibitionistic sister engage in a perverse competition. Add to this stew, a neighbor (whose a witch on disability) and you have a campy exercise in dysfunction.

Inspired by foreign landscapes and the Rocky Mountains, the films 'Moose Mountain' and 'Moose Mountain Two' include animation, hand processing, and hand painted film.

We follow the director's camera into the kitchens and living rooms of a community of Moroccan women. inside the walls of their apartment in Casablanca's old Medina, the women cook, clean, take care of their families and help each other. With their hands in the dough, in the soap whilst washing the laundry, doing the house chores, in the market or at the hammam, between laughter and tears ("We are housewives, that's all. ... Our sport? House cleaning!"). These courageous women, proud of their role, talk about their miserable lives with a great sense of awareness, but without self-pity. They show a surprising vitality, curiosity for life and solidarity.
