O Happy Day: The Early Days of Black Gay Liberation

The seminal short film O Happy Day imagines the early days of gay liberation for black gay men. Lofton juxtaposes images of black men from late 60s and early 70s films with images of Black Panther Party demonstrations, as a way of intentionally revising history. The soundtrack is punctuated by a 1970 quotation from Black Panther leader Huey Newton: "There's nothing to say that a homosexual cannot also be a revolutionary. Quite on the contrary, maybe a homosexual could be the most revolutionary..." O Happy Day blurs the difference between the Black Power movement and the Gay Power movement, and instead focuses on the similarities between the two.

Estrecho Adventure (“estrecho” refers to the Gibraltar strait) analyses immigration coming from northern Africa’s coasts and the visual format he adopts to do so is that of videogames. The first part of the video focuses on Abdul, who must overcome a series of obstacles in order to cross the border -the Strait of Gibraltar-, and enter the Europe of his dreams. In the second phase of the game, once in Spain, he collects vegetables in southern Spain’s greenhouses in order to obtain the prize: his residence permit. -laboralcentrodearte.org

Hreidar the Stupid

Twenty minutes of inventive puppet animation, it was finished in January 1996. The story, taken from an Icelandic saga, tells of the adventures in Norway of Hreidar, a "big, ugly and slowwitted" Icelander. Hreidar wants to meet King Magnus, whom he impresses with his enormous strength and candid behavior; then he has a fight with a soldier of another king, Harald, and kills him.

From 1982 to 1996 award-winning filmmakers Mary Beth Brangan & James Heddle documented on film and video unfolding events in the fledgling island nation of Palau. When Palau's voters made it the first nation in history to adopt a nuclear free, green constitution, Washington's war planners saw it as 'the threat of a good example.' Palau became the poster child for the growing Nuclear Free Pacific movement and a cause celebre for the global nuclear free zone movement. The 10-year-long manipulation of the electoral process the U.S. then unleashed to force the rollback of Palau's nuclear ban became a text book case for subversion of the democratic process in developing countries...and at home. Their experiences covering this story made the filmmakers life-long advocates of election integrity.

In this documentary, film-maker Pinchas Schatz sets out to determine the fate of his grandfather, a Zionist leader in the former Soviet republic of Estonia between the two world wars. Accompanied by his mother, Margalit, (his grandfather's daughter), they journey back to Estonia where in the summer of 1995, K.G.B. archives and secret files relating to the case were made public. From these and the new testimonies of other witnesses, they are able to piece together a largely unknown chapter in the tragic annals of the Zionist movement in the former Soviet Union, and, more personally, the official verdict against his grandfather for "trying to establish a Bourgeois-Jewish State in Palestine with the assistance of the Capitalist countries.

Lucy Castle, a 26 years old English woman came to Romania – Hoteni from Maramureş -in order to prepare her PhD thesis in ethnographic music. She ended here by marrying a simple peasant: John Hotea (22 years old), an orphan with no education, and according to the local people that were disappointed by Lucy’s choice, a violent and alcoholic guy. Now the family Castle-Hotea lives in England. The local people say that this was what John was looking for, while Lucy wanted to establish her in the village for the rest of her life.
