An elliptical, pictographic animated film that uses flat, painted figures and collage elements in both two and three dimensional settings to explore the realms of memory, language and identity from the point of view of a woman amnesiac.

Cannot Not Exist

In this non-orange negative of a hand-painted film, a series of luminously pastel shapes – often patches of color against a stark white background – are interspersed with nearly black intermittent smudges punctuating white. These visual themes develop gradually into a series of multi-colored vertical lines which weave contrapunctally in relation to the flickering (single-frame) paint shapes. Twice, a solid (as if photographed) shape is seen receding from the amalgam of paint. Masses of tiny dots and "curlicue" shapes sometimes interrupt the thematic progression from irregular paint-shape flickerings to fluidity of vertical lines: this theme eventually resolves itself through the intervention of globular shapes (most notably, brilliant orange-yellow "globs") which spread themselves over several frames and prompt the eventual amalgamation of all themes.

Space Girl Detective Bloomers

Miri Asano, a second-year junior high school student who makes a wish for a star, is given a protect suit "bloomers" by a human-sized rabbit, Yun, and becomes a "space girl detective bloomers" by "flashing". Her enemy is the Dark Dimension Empire Enigma. The ruler, Emperor of Darkness, Destruction God Baower, led a fleet of different dimensions and started invading the earth. An invading hand approaching Miri's school! Fight! Space Girl Detective Bloomers!

Settela: Face of the Past

In 1944, a Jewish prisoner was commissioned by camp commander Gemmeker to make a film about life and work in Westerbork. Seven seconds from this film became the symbol of the deportations to the Nazi extermination camps: a girl with a white headscarf standing in the doorway of a goods wagon. Who was she? In 1994 Cherry Duyns followed journalist Aad Wagenaar in search of the girl's identity.

With warm performances from a young cast and exquisite detail in the production design, this tender short film powerfully evokes the trials and tribulations faced by kids settling in 1950s Britain.

Rarely interviewed filmmakers such as Hiroshi Teshigahara (Woman in the Dunes) and Masaki Kobayashi (Kaidan) expound on the varied sonic palettes Takemitsu left upon their works.

Life and Death at the Ambassador Hotel

From 1978 to 1996, the hotel was managed by Hank Wilson, a San Francisco LGBT activist who made the hotel a model for harm reduction housing. 134 run-down and exhausted rooms populated by homeless men and women, sometimes even children. All of them in urgent need of care, compassion and humanity. Nobly provided by voluntarily working professional health care and social workers staff, various benefactors, volunteers, neighbors, and community contributions.

Renamo kidnapped up to 100,000 children, and they became the most feared soldiers of all. When parents find their long-lost children, these hardened young assassins bear little resemblance to the children they lost.

Seven Women
