Lucia Moholy, la photographe du Bauhaus

As a Bauhaus photographer, Lucia Moholy (1894-1989) was a pioneer of New Objectivity. Her husband László Moholy-Nagy was appointed to the Bauhaus in 1923. They worked there together and László became famous as the inventor of the photogram, a photo without film. Lucia's contribution to this only became known later. When the Czech-born Jew was forced to leave Germany in 1933 after the Nazis seized power, she was unable to take her most important possession, her glass negatives, with her. She struggled to keep her head above water in London and worked for the British secret service on the microfilming of valuable documents. With her vision of microfilm as freely accessible information for all, she is now regarded as a pioneer of the Internet. After the war, Lucia set out in search of her glass negatives.

A film story "found footage", of found footage, which questions the limits of archival material. A piece created from images that document the history of Spanish colonization during 1926 and 1930 in Equatorial Guinea. The nitrate emulsions of the film are released from their original political function. And the traces of colonial Equatorial Guinea of 1926-1930 are recycled with poetic justice, far from extractivist logics. Decipher the enigma of the "other", of the absolutely different.

Light Machines

A series of sunsets filmed over the course of a year are traversed by rays of light that permeate the Super 8 film through a structure of intentional light leaks. These create overexposed images that, in turn, intermingle with virtual sunsets and landscapes, creating a continuous flicker between natural and artificial light. The film is based on the idea of “light machines,” understood as devices capable of controlling and transforming light. Several of these machines are used in this film: the camera itself, filters, 3D lighting, flashlights, and crystals, which serve to materialize a constant contrast between structural control and the unpredictability of capturing flashes of light.
