Joan tries to keep balance between being one day in war, another in peace. The film is a journey from one world to another and the line between these worlds is not clear. You must reconsider the meaning of “reality”. Everything is mixed up: the war is “there”, but it could be “here” anytime.

The nine virtual sculptures underlying vitreous resulted from experimental setups by Robert Seidel for generating three-dimensional clusters of fibrous refractions, as well as the gravitational lensing of different volumetric and chromatic densities. Singular elements gravitate towards each other, accumulating in a gigantic sculptural system, where each entity exists with its own visual axis and vanishing point. The impalpable luminous formations create prismatic interactions between the ridges and plateaux of the main colours floating in front of the infinite violet background.

According to the medieval religious text Alphabet of ben Sirach, Lilith was the first wife of Adam. Unlike Eve, she refused to obey her husband and considered herself equal to him. Lilith's Community is a virtual utopian sorority created through artistic revision of history on the basis of positive gender discrimination and rejection of the tradition of male domination. Lilith's Community is compiled out of eleven Ukrainian films of 1917-1930 by leaving only the episodes involving women. The editing was done not by creating artificial connections between the episodes, but by superimposing all source films according to the original chronology of episodes in each of them. Even with such hyperdensity, the film sometimes displays a black screen. It indicates that at this particular moment of the running time none of the eleven films featured a woman.

A babushka at Maidan sings: “If he meets death – may it be instant”.

The Front Lines of Kurdistan

The Front Lines of Kurdistan is a TV documentary about the modern history of the Kurds, an oppressed and besieged people attempting to create an independent state on the ruins of Middle East. The Kurds are the largest ethnic group without one; Kurdish-inhabited areas reach into Iran, Turkey, Iraq, and Syria. The documentary takes us to the battle lines between Kurdish forces and the Islamic State in Kirkuk and the Sinjar Mountains (Iraq), and Kobani (Syria). In December 2014 and January 2015, Erik Valenčič made it to the front lines of the fierce offensives and interviewed key figures in the struggle for an independent Kurdistan.

Falling Frames

Falling Frames is the first fragment of a series in which Langkamp explores the framing and visualization of three-dimensional perspective through the two-dimensional medium of video, both technically as well as conceptually. To record the work, a special device was built that's attached to a tall industrial crane, which contains a stack of wooden picture frames that can be released from a height of ten to fifteen meters. The camera is placed right in the center of the action and captures the frames' movement while they fall down. The slow motion recording of 240 still frames per second allows us to experience every millimeter of movement to the very detail. While the frames get smaller and smaller in perspective as they move further away from our view, they are immediately followed by the next frame and the next one, until they've all reached the floor and found a place to rest.
